For example, simply insert into grassland with a wooden or rubber camping mallet, or you can use a battery drill to make it much easier!

I have used these pegs on the hard standing of Caravan Club sites without a problem. They really need a battery drill to insert them but they go into the hard ground and hold. I have found that an impact drill is amazing for inserting them. This is a different action from a hammer drill and probably too expensive to justify having just for this use, but if you have an impact drill this is a potent combination for getting your awning secure very quickly.
